Butterflies and Jerusalem IMAX movies
I recently went to see two great films in 3D on the giant IMAX screen. Updated Mar 2023.
Flight of the Butterflies
The first one was about the Monarch Butterflies. They migrate from Ontario and New York state to Mexico. For decades it was unknown where they went, and many people were searching for their winter home. Finally, it was found. A few years ago, I went on migration with the Monarch Butterflies from Ontario to the remote mountains of central Mexico. You can read the story here on my website. Just look up butterflies in the category box on the right.
Jerusalem
The second movie was about the history of the city of Jerusalem. I have been to Jerusalem, and it is an extraordinary place. I am not Jewish, but the sight of the Jews praying at the Western Wall was inspirational. I also visited Muslim holy places such as the Dome of the Rock, one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. The city is a sacred site for three major religions. The narrow, winding streets are full of little shops selling all kinds of strange and wonderful things. The Christian churches are built over the places where Jesus lived and died.
There always seems to be some kind of parade, dance, or festival in one part of the city or another. I love the architecture and the massive wall around the city, built in 1538. Jerusalem is a World Heritage Site, and whether you are Jewish, Muslim, Christian, or some other religion, or no religion at all, everyone should visit Jerusalem once in their life. It is one of the world’s most wondrous places.
Both The Flight of the Butterflies and Jerusalem are great movies in 3D. It seemed like the butterflies were flying around in the audience. These movies are probably no longer available in the theatres, but you should be able to find them on DVD.
Note: I have lived in Israel. I have also lived in Syria and Lebanon. My Thatched Hut does not make opinions, discuss or take sides on political or religious issues.
