The story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers, who were involved in the shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, is well known. But have you ever heard of Wyatt’s younger brother, Warren Earp?
Warren Earp was the youngest brother. He was not present for the gunfight at the OK Corral. He was a law-abiding tough guy like his brother Wyatt. Brother Virgil was the Marshall of Tombstone, and James was his deputy. After the famous gunfight and the assassination of brother Morgan, the Earps moved to California, but Warren returned in 1891 and lived in Wilcox, Arizona.
On 6 July 1900, Warren had an argument with a man named Johnny Boyett. Both men were drunk. Boyett fired four shots at Warren, missing all four. Warren was too fearless for his own good and, not thinking of his safety, walked unarmed straight toward Johnny in an attempt to disarm him. Although courageous, this was not very smart. Finally, he got close enough that Johnny could not possibly miss, and the fifth shot killed him.

Although Morgan was killed in Tombstone, he is buried in California. Warren is the only member of the family buried in Arizona. His body rests in a lonely desert graveyard near Wilcox. When I was in Arizona, I went there to see it. I like to travel and visit off-the-beaten-path places that most tourists never see. If you are ever in the area, stop and say hello to Warren Earp. He does not get many visitors.
